Prof Paruk has 18 Years’ experience at Senior & Top Management level in the Private and Public Sectors. She is currently supporting the Department of Public Works Turnaround strategy in the capacity of change management and culture change specialist. Sesh completed her role as the 1st HR Executive at the Parliament, RSA in December 2012; has been the 1st Black female Director at Direct Axis in the financial private sector (a First Rand subsidiary ); has served as the 2nd National President of Women in Nuclear (SA) whilst serving multiple roles within Eskoms’ Nuclear arm; was Head of Psychology at the University of Zululand’s satellite campus in Umlazi (Kzn), Senior Counsellor at the AIDS Training & Information Centre; A Trainer of Primary Health Care workers at Siyakha (NGO) to name but a few of her roles, she concurrently served on several high ranking Global & National Boards.
Being simultaneously vocal & a driver of innovation & transformation, a few professional accomplishments include: serving on the team responsible for the training of the 1st waves of South African primary health care workers targeted at rural/semi-rural areas as part of a wider effort to augment the State Health care system; assisted to spearhead the 1st faces of AIDS campaign which played a pivotal role in demystifying HIV/AIDS and reducing the stigma attached to HIV positive people; Ddesigned & implemented the first nuclear culture change programme in RSA; Identified & groomed the 1st African male and 1st Black female Licensed Nuclear Operators on the African continent; Pproduced the 1st group of Psychology Honours students at the University of Zululands’ satellite campus; Produced Parliaments’ first strategic HR plan & designed and implemented Parliaments’ 1st culture change program whilst serving as the South African representative of the global team that established the 1st global Leadership intervention for Parliamentarians and officials in the global effort to ensure efficacy of global Parliaments in being the custodian of human rights, peace and acceptance of diversity.
She is an accomplished academic with a PhD in Psychology along with several other degrees & certificates. Her long standing contribution to the management & social sciences and challenging of academics to become more active in contributing towards the South African & African Development trajectories lead to her being awarded an Extraordinary Professorship by the University of the North West. This was a significant accomplishment as Sesh was the only South African to be awarded one of the 5 Extraordinary Professorships by the UNW during 2011.
These lofty standards were set for Sesh very early in her life, hailing from a family where she is merely one of four generations of human rights activists and honed by many significant mentors including her late grandfathers, her late father Prof KS Naidoo, the late Prof Fathima Meer & Dr Goonam & profoundly by the Late Um Govan Mbeki.
Strongly networked with top global Influencers, is a Member of the UN World Peace & Alleviation of Poverty initiatives, serves on South Africa’s National Consumer Tribunal & is a member of Business Woman of SA. She was recently nominated for Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards 2014 (an initiative Hosted by CEO Communications (Pty) Ltd.
Describing herself, Sesh says “My life’s work is informed by contributing to the “highest collective universal good. I am a very tiny part of a huge universal jig saw puzzle that is trying to come together. It has been my honour for the past 18 years to have mentored and coached many, many leaders in various industries & sectors. This is the natural order of the Universe, each of us gives fully of ourselves to others – this selfless sharing is what caused our very evolution”
